Day 12 – Grand Canyon Sunrise

At 4:45 a.m. our alarm went off  - we got up and dressed.  Chloe was blinking and looking at us like we were crazy (which I think may be true).  Sadie was under the blankets and had no plan to come out so after I gave Chloe a little belly rub and put her on the floor, I picked up Sadie.  She could not keep her eyes open.  I got the flashlight and took them for a walk.  By the time we got back all of us were wide-awake.

We got to the viewing area around 5:30 and sunrise was around 6:30 so we were a little early.  We sat in the car and watched the wind blowing the trees around – looks like another cold viewing!

People starting arriving around 6 and we walked down to the canyon around 6:10 and waited for the sun to show its shining face.  While we waited, we noticed a contrail going straight up in the sky.  It kept growing longer as we watched.  It must have been a rocket launch from some place to our east.

Here are some pictures of the canyon at sunrise.

The rocket contrail is that light streak on the left third of the picture

On the way back to the camper we saw some elk on the side of the road.  We had seen them and also some deer yesterday on the way for the sunset, but didn’t get any pictures.  This time we stopped for a couple of fast shots.

We did some laundry and just chilled the rest of the day.  Tomorrow we move to Utah.

  1. I can't wait to see the pictures first hand - postings just don't show up as well. Poor puppies - you'll need to bring some artificial turf with you and hose it off when they're done!
