Day 13 – Moving to Utah

We packed up and said goodbye to Grand Canyon Camper Village around 10 a.m. and entered the south entrance of the park for the last time.  We stopped at a couple of overviews on the way towards the east entrance.  Dorrie had said she was done with the Grand Canyon, but she could not resist a few parting photos.  It took us one hour to get to the east entrance.

We were headed to Monticello, Utah and the Mountain View RV Park.  Once there, we would decide if we wanted to spend more than one night or continue on to Moab, Utah.

On the way we drove through Monument  Valley,  just inside the Utah state line.  The landscape is hard to describe.  You would have desert floor and then all of the sudden a giant rock formation would appear.  Most of the formations were out of red rock/soil – I think it was sandstone.  One formation was really dark and stood on one side of the road and across the road was a red one that looked like someone had carved it out of the stone.

At Mexican Hat, Utah we stopped to snap a photo of it's namesake rock formation below.

We got to the campground around 6 and got setup.  We decided this was just an overnight stay and made reservations for four nights in a campground at Moab.
