Day 68 – May 17 –
Beach in Lincoln City
We drove north about 25 miles to the town on Lincoln
City. Mary had read on the internet that
glass orbs were hidden on the beach here and if you found one you could keep
it. Also she and Dorrie wanted to try
their hand at glass blowing and there is a place in Lincoln City that allows
you to help create your own glass art piece.
We looked for about 2 hours for orbs, but no one found one. I talked to a local guy who was looking with
his two daughters – he told me they were hidden in the grass and that local
residents would go out at night with flashlights looking for reflections to aid
in finding the orbs. He also said he has never found one. The nearest I came
to finding one was a pair of sandals I saw in the tall grass.

Our search for glass orbs in Oregon was as successful as our
search for diamonds had been in Arkansas.
But at least we can say we tried.
We went to the glass blowing studio to see about getting a
shot at creating our own orbs. The
classes for the day were filled up, so Dorrie and Mary signed up for sessions
tomorrow.
We went to lunch at a place called Road House, based on the
number of cars in the lot. It looked to
be very popular so we thought it must have good food. The place was almost empty, I don’t know who
drove the cars that were on the lot but they were not inside the
restaurant. The food was all right; we
have had better and worse.
Next we went to an outlet mall. We happened onto a photo shop and they had
the newest model of Sony camera that Dorrie and Rick both liked. Rick has one that has a 30 times optical
zoom, and Dorrie’s is 50 times optical zoom.
This new one is 63 times optical zoom.
We debated on it for a while, and finally decided to come back tomorrow
if we wanted it. In the mean time we
found Rick and Mary at a shoe store.
Dorrie and I talked about it some more and I finally said I was going to
get it because it would be great for Alaska.
While we were making that decision, Rick and Mary went over and bought
one. So we both have the new Sony camera.
Back at the campground we decided to go to the beach and
test Rick’s old camera, Dorrie’s camera and the new one to see just what
differences we could see. At this point
we are still not sure if the zoom is that much better than Dorrie’s camera,
but it is a big change over Rick’s old camera.
Our testing will continue – I will let you know how it goes.
Tomorrow we move up the coast again. We will stop for glassing blowing in Lincoln
City on our slow march up the Oregon coast.
Tomorrow’s move is about 70 miles.
I should be able to post once we get to the campground.
