Day 75 – May 24 – Touring Seattle

We headed towards downtown Seattle this morning.  We were going to the parking garage at 5th Avenue and Harrison Street.  I was driving – Rick had programmed his GPS the night before for the location and we were doing good until we got off the interstate.  Well, seems he put in East Harrison Street instead of Harrison.  We ended up in a residential area with very narrow streets with cars parked on the sides so there was only enough room for one car to pass through between the parked cars.

He finally got the correct address programmed in to the GPS and I drove towards the garage we wanted.  Between the directions of the GPS and Rick from the backseat I turned down the wrong street and had to do a “U” turn.  We ended up at the end of a long line to get into the garage, but finally made our destination.  It turned out that a festival was underway this weekend.  I parked and we got out.

Our first stop was the “Ride the Ducks” tour next to the Space Needle.

We figured this was a good way to see the city without trying to drive it ourselves.  The tour included a view of the floating houses on Lake Union.  The duck driver gave us a good history of the city.  Below are some photos from the tour.

After the Ducks we got on the monorail for the one-mile ride to within 5 blocks of the farmer’s market.

We walked down to the market and found a place to eat.  I was thinking seafood, but we ended up on the outdoor deck of a Bolivian restaurant.  The food was good.  Dorrie, Rick and I tried a local beer – Dorrie and I had one named “Naughty Nellie”.  It was not a Bud Light, but we didn’t have any problem drinking it.

After eating we walked over to the area of the famous thrown fish at the Pike Fish Market.

Then it was back to the monorail and back to the car for the trip home.
