Day 113 – July 1
(Alaska Day 22) – Shopping for Pot-Luck
Last night Sadie was not feeling good – she had problems
walking and was shivering and was not herself.
Dorrie and I both checked on her during the night – I don’t think either
of us got a lot of sleep.
We put her coat on her this morning – she had her tee shirt
on and was still shivering. We decided
to try part of a baby aspirin and she seemed to get better. She was up on the dash, so we though it was
okay to leave her for a little while.
We drove to the town of Kenai, about 60 to 90 minutes
away. Miles really don’t mean a lot
here. To get to Kenai, we drive to
Soldotna and then turn west. Soldotna is
about 40 miles away and Kenai is another 12 miles.
On the way to Soldotna a female moose just stepped across
the guard rail onto the road, strolled across the road and stepped over the
guard rail on the other side. That
stretch of road is unusual in having guard railing. There were two cars ahead of us so we didn’t
have a chance to get a picture of the gal.
We got oil, oil filter, air filter, and some food at the
Kenai Wal-Mart, had lunch at a fast food place and headed home.
Near the place we saw the moose on the way in, a female
moose sauntered across the road. We
stopped again and this time Dorrie got a of good picture.
Dorrie tried to take Sadie out to potty when we got home,
but she would not walk down the steps.
Dorrie lifted her down and Sadie just laid down on the ground. This is very much not normal for her; she
loves to get her leash on and go walking.
Rick and I changed the oil in the campers and replaced the
air filters. The campers are set for
more miles.
Dorrie got Sadie to eat by putting cheese on it – she loves
cheese. I did get her to go out and pee,
so maybe she is getting better.
