Day 125 – July 13 (Alaska Day 34) – Haines

Great news!  We have not run of Wow days yet.  We stayed on the edge of Kluane Lake last night and this morning the views were just super.  The lake was named for a packhorse that drowned in the lake in 1904.  I guess it was a good packhorse or they were just hard up for a name for the lake.  Who in the heck names a horse Kluane?  The water looks so pure and then we started around the end of the lake where Slim’s River emptied into the lake.  The river was very muddy and the water in the lake was blue with muddy streaks.  It looked strange.

We were driving along and Rick pulled over and said to look on the left side of the road.  There was a mommy moose and baby feeding in a small lake.

We make it to Haines Junction in the Yukon Territory and stopped at the visitor’s center.  We then headed towards Haines, Alaska.  To get there we had to drive into British Columbia before getting back into Alaska.  The border crossing was no problem once again.  We stopped a couple more times for pictures and had lunch at 33 Mile Roadhouse.  The food was good and the place was crowded.
This is at Haines Junction
This is an example of where the people store their meat so the animals can't get to it in the winter

As we entered Haines we passed the home of Parker, one of the stars of the TV show “Gold Rush”.  It was interesting for Dorrie and I.
