Day 121 – July 9 (Alaska Day 30) – Valdez

Does anybody know if you are allocated just so many WOW! Days?  If there is a lifetime limit, then we might have used them up on this trip.  I had heard the drive to Valdez was incredible, but you just cannot be prepared for what you see.  It was another day of low clouds and overcast skies but that added to the effect instead of diminishing it.  All I can do is let the pictures speak for themselves.

This looks like two glaciers to us, it might be one that has split, I don't know

There had been an avalanche a few months earlier that closed the road to Valdez, this is what is left

The water is funny colored because of the glacier silt in the water

Those little white dots on the right side of the falls are people

We had reservations in a campground that said we would have harbor front view, but we are on the backside of the lot, not on the waterside.  Anyway after setting up the campers we took a drive and found eagles, eagles, and more eagles.

I had to include this guy.  He would pull the fish up the metal grate and get a couple pecks in and the fish would slide back down towards the water.  Or he would pull it up and another bird would try to take it and he would chase it away, and have to pull the fish back up again.

It rains off and on but we are making the best of it.
