Day 116 – July 4
(Alaska Day 25) – Independence Day
Our last day at Country Boy Campground! We have been in the same campground for 2
weeks now. When we got here there were about 8 campers in the park, including 3
or so that seems to live here. Today
there are about 25 campers. The rate is
great at $15 a night for full hookups for Passport America. The owner is a great guy; would help anyone with anything. He is really a friendly guy. This year has been very slow for him. He said the fire here earlier in the year scared people away. He could not be happier that so many people are here now. We met some really nice people here and enjoyed ourselves.
The owner (Chuck) said we were going to have a potluck
dinner tonight. He would provide the
pulled pork and the rest of the people would bring side dishes or dessert. Dorrie made green beans mixed with fried
potatoes. I should have taken a picture
of the food. There was enough to feed an
army! At 4 o’clock we all gathered in
the restaurant (closed this season because of the slow economy).
Chuck got up before we started eating and tried to say a few
words of thanks, but he got so emotional that he started crying.

It was wonderful to think we helped to bring
some joy into his life. Almost everyone
had a great time and ate until they couldn’t eat any more. One of my favorites was the halibut casserole
– it was great.
I included some pictures from the restaurant
ceiling, which is painted blue to represent the surface of a pond. So as you look up you see things like a beer
can attached to the ceiling as if it is floating, the bottom of a boat and
motor, duck feet – you get the idea.
