Day 139 – July 27 –
Glacier National Park, Take One
We drove to the park entrance again today. I told the ranger we were going to drive as
far as we could, which she reminded me was 6 miles. Just as we entered the park, we drove by
Saint Mary Lake and the snowcapped mountains were reflecting in the water, but
I passed up what turned out to be the only place to be able to stop and take
pictures. Trees lined the road on the
lake side and you could not see anything except for a fast glimpse through the
trees.
We didn’t see any animals except for a squirrel or two. At the Rising Sun shuttle stop we had to turn
around because that was as far as we could go.
At this stop there are boat tours of the lake and a boat was loading up
when we walked down to the lake for some pictures. The wind had picked up by this time and the
reflection was gone from view. The scene
was still beautiful.
We stopped at the grocery store and a couple of gift shops
on the way back to the campground.
Dorrie had said steak sounded good for dinner, but the quality of the
meat was not very good, so we passed.
The store is very small and they didn’t have fresh meat, just frozen
pork chops, steaks, and chicken.
The rest of the day was spent at the campground, walking the
dogs a couple of times and Dorrie reviewed the gifts she has purchased so
far. She proclaimed that anything
purchased from this point forward would be for us, that everyone was taken care
of now. We will see.
