Day 135 – July 23 –
Jasper National Park
It started out as another boring day. We drove through “wildlife corridors” and
heavy moose accident areas but didn’t see anything except for one deer and a
black bear that moved off before we could get a picture.
Then we started climbing mountains and before you knew it,
the scenery was pushing the wow meter towards WOW. We drove through valleys with rushing rivers
beside the road and mountains on both sides, then we would climb above the
river, over a pass and back down the other side to yet another valley / river
combination. And we had our forest back!
We crossed into Alberta and almost immediately hit the gates
to Jasper National Park. We paid the
entrance fee (and used up some of our remaining Canadian money) and got stopped
less than a mile from the entrance for roadwork. They were removing rocks from an area –
several people were hanging from ropes on the side of a shear mountainside and
knocking rocks down onto the road below.
A front loader was scooping up the rocks and moving them to the
roadside. He posed for
Dorrie.
We tried to get into one campground, but there were no more sites available to accommodate RVs our size. They told us the Whistlers campground had
sites available – dry camping but that was okay. Last night we “paid” 68 dollars to stay a
Wal-Mart and tonight we got by for only $27.40.
Everything in Canada is extremely expensive, just in case I have not
mentioned that before.
Dorrie.
