Day 120 – July 8
(Alaska Day 29) – Going to Valdez
Rick had noticed the windshield in his motorhome was moving
– the rubber around it on the drivers side had slipped back some, exposing the
edge of the fiberglass shell around it.
He called a glass shop and set up an appointment at 8 this morning in
Eagle River – about 20 miles away. So
they left about 7:30 and we stayed on a little longer to let them get their work
done.
About 8:45 Rick called to say they wouldn’t work on the
windshield without a replacement on hand and the last one took 8 weeks to get
there. The guy did some work on it and
told him it should be okay until he gets back to the lower 48 states. We filled up with gas (for under $4 per
gallon!) and set out to meet up with them and drive towards Valdez.
The drive took us on the Glen Highway as far as Glenallen
where we would take the Richardson Highway south to Valdez. Once again the scenery was indescribable. The clouds hanging on the mountains, the
trees and rivers all combined to make your jaw drop.
This is a glacier and those little dark spot in the right side of middle are 3 people |
We are currently stopped at a pullout. There are 3 other campers parked here for the
night. It got warm today – about
80. It just started raining lightly and
has cooled down for the “night”. With
the cloud cover it might be dark later, say around 2 or 3 o’clock.
One last update on Sadie, she is doing fine now and I think
fully recovered.
