Day 104 – June 22 (Alaska Day 13)– Ninilchik Day 2

We drove into Soldotna to pay our deposit for the floatplane trip on Thursday because they require half down and would not take credit cards over the phone.  On the way we saw a cow moose and twin calves on the side of the road.  One of the calves is hidden in the picture below.

We found the place we were looking for – it will take us an hour to drive there on Thursday for our 6:30 a.m. check-in.  They said we should return some time around 1:30, so it should be fun.  The girl at the desk said everyone has reported seeing bears and catching fish.

Next we drove to Kenai to get supplies at our favorite campground host, Wal-Mart.  We stopped at the Russian Orthodox Church just out side of Ninilchik.

After putting up our groceries and walking the dogs we drove to the fishing charter place to make sure we knew where to go on Tuesday.  After that we went to the boat launch at Deep Creek to watch them recover some boats.  The boats come in “hot” and as soon as they hit the trailer the tractor starts pulling forward to remove the boats from the water.

Once on land the people climb down via step ladders.  This will be our departure point on Tuesday.
After seeing this we are all excited and ready to catch some halibut!
