Day 85 – June 3 –
Watson Lake
It rained all night and was still raining in the
morning. We went to eat breakfast at
Liard River Lodge – just outside the park.
We got there about 8:15 and it took forever to get food. We got out of the restaurant after 9:30. The food as well as fuel up here is
expensive! Dorrie had 3 pancakes and
coffee. I had 2 eggs, ham, hash browns
(that is what they called them) and toast along with coffee. Our bill was over $27 – mine was something
like $13.50 which isn’t bad when 3 pancakes cost $11.50!
Then we hit a stretch of road with bears.
Followed with more bison.
It made for a good drive even in the rain. We crossed into Yukon several times before we
finally saw the official welcome sign.
We planned to stay at the Tags campground next to the
Signpost Forest, but it was not open. We
drove to the Services Campground, but it was closed since 2012, so we ended up
in the only campground open in Watson Lake – Downtown R.V. Park. The place was almost empty when we got here
around 1 o’clock but by 8 the upper part was almost full.
After supper we went to the Signpost Forest to hang a sign
Rick had made. The rain had stopped
earlier not too long after we got here, so it was nice while we looked at some
of the signs. On Thursday of this week the Signpost Forest will become a National Historical Sight.
The daylight seems to never end, you can read a newspaper
outside at 11 p.m. and at 2 or 3 in the morning it is still very light
outside. We don’t seem to have any
problems sleeping, which is the good thing.
