Day 84 – June 2 –
Liard River Hotsprings
We left our campsites at Muncho Lake and started the 40-mile
move north. We drove with the lake on
our left and we topped a small hill with a curve and the lake was in front of us
reflecting all the surrounding landscape.
We had to stop for photos.
We stopped once more for an overview of the lake.
We then continued our slow drive towards Liard River
Hotsprings Provincial Park. We saw a sign
along the rode for Bison, but never saw a single one. Once at the park campground we selected a
double site and set up camp. After a
lunch of wine, cheese, and sourdough bread Dorrie and I set out for the
hotsprings. Rick and Mary were not too
far behind us.
The park has two hotsprings areas but the one known as the
upper pool is closed to visitors for now – something about an endangered
snail. The closer you get to the up
stream end of the pool, the hotter the water.
I read that it is boiling temperature at the very end. I know it is too hot to try to go very far
past the last set of steps. There is a
slight sulfur smell, not as bad as I expected.
The water felt great and all the people were very friendly. Rick ran into a guy he used to work with and
they had a great time talking about all the people they knew.
We stayed at the pool for about 90 minutes and then walked
back to the camper. About 6 this
afternoon it started a nice gentle rain.
It is now 8:30 and rain continues to fall. This should be our last night in British
Columbia and I guess it is the B.C.’s way of saying it will miss us. Tomorrow we should move into the Yukon
Territory. I will be on the outlook
for Sgt. Preston.
