Day 22 – Headed to St
George
Mother Nature had an April Fools joke for us today. Leaving the state park we headed towards
Bryce Canyon National Park. Within 30
minutes of leaving the park it started snowing.
As we walked into the Visitors Center in Bryce Canyon National Park just
a light snow was falling. We drove to
the Sunset Overview in the park and took the short walk to the rim of the
canyon. It was an impressive sight to
see the hoodoos standing with snow around them.
The snow was very light at first, but the higher we drove,
the harder the snow came. As we neared
the summit of the mountains the snow started to lightly cover the road so you
could see the tire tracks on the highway.
The windshield wipers iced up and that made driving a real treat.
Finally after about two hours, the heavy snow ended.
Our next stop was Zion National
Park. We had to pay $15 at the entrance
so we could pass through the tunnel in the park. The reason for this is the tunnel is not tall
enough at the sides to clear the camper, so the park rangers close down the
tunnel to oncoming traffic so we could drive down the middle of the road. It is a long tunnel, I am not sure just how
long, but it took 3 to 4 minutes to get all the way through.

Rick had to take the car off the back of the camper because
there is also a length limit. Mary and
Dorrie drove the car through the park and through the tunnel. We continued on towards St George, our
planned stop for the night.
Rick looked for a place to get the brakes fixed on the
Jeep. It seems the braking system kept
the brakes on during our mountain runs and the brakes overheated. We found a couple of places he is going to
try tomorrow morning – they were closed tonight.
Tomorrow we move to Las Vegas for a few days.
