Day 30 – April 9 – Point Loma

The day started bad with a sick dog.  Chloe was throwing up and it took a while to clean up before we hit the road.  Then we stopped for gas – talk about a wake up call.  Using the Gas Buddy app we found a Sam’s Club that had gas for $3.92 per gallon.  Welcome to California prices!

We got to Mission Bay RV Park about 10:30 and found out check-in time is 2:00 p.m.  We were trying to get the Passport America discount rate, which was available only as drive up.  We went inside to see if they had any openings and found out they had three sites for the Passport America – we got two of the three.

We could not go to our site until after noon, so we walked to the Snack Shack for lunch.  When we got back to the campers we were allowed to go to our sites and set up for our stay of two nights.

Later in the afternoon we drove to Point Loma to see a couple of lighthouses at the Cabrillo National Monument.

We all forgot how windy it can be on or near the water.  The wind was really strong as can be seen by the flag and sailboat in the photos below.

The first lighthouse was too high on the hill and would shine above the fog over the ocean so they built the second lighthouse.
The old lighthouse - work was being performed on the roof

While at the visitor’s center we saw a submarine headed out of the Naval Base.

After supper we walked down the street about 2 blocks to watch the sunset.  A good ending to a day that started so bad.
