Day 39 – April 18 - Yosemite

I was walking the dogs this morning and saw four quail in the campground.  These are not like the Bobwhite quails we have in Missouri.  They have the funny feather on the front of their head that curves out like they are wearing a feathered hat.  They ran a little distance, and then stopped to eat when the dogs didn’t try to chase them.

Once everyone was ready, we drove to Yosemite National Park this morning.  Mary was not feeling well before we left, but thought she would feel better after being up for a while.

We were going along fine and Rick remarked that a cop was behind us.  The manager at the campground had warned us about not speeding in the park because you have to appear in person if you get a ticket, so he was watching his speed to make sure he was in the clear.  The cop turned on his lights and Rick pulled over – and so did the cop.  He said he could not read the license plate because of the plastic cover Rick had over the plate.  He said it was illegal in California and he was pretty sure it was in Missouri as well.  After reviewing the required information – insurance, registration, and drivers license – he had Rick remove the cover over the back plate while he watched.

We went on our way and stopped at a vista point to look at what the wildfire from last year had done to the mountainside.  It makes you sick to think that a person caused the fire –known as the Rim fire.  The file destroyed over 400 square miles of forest.

We entered the park and stopped to view several waterfalls.

We stopped at a view area to see Half Dome and a distant waterfall.
Half Dome

I have attempted to identify them, but some of the names may be wrong – if you see a mistake be sure to let me know J.

Bridalveil  Fall

Upper Yosemite Fall
Our plan was to go to the Visitors Center in Yosemite Valley, eat at one of the places there and view some more of the park.  Mary was feeling worse by now, so we circled around and headed back to the campers.

Tomorrow is another day!
