Day 32 – April 11 –
San Juan Capistrano
We looked for two days for a place to stay tonight and could
not find anything on our route, so we decided to take potluck and see what
happened. With that in mind we left
Mission Bay RV – after getting more pizzas from the Schwan man. He made a stop in the campground so we
stocked up with the individual pizzas.
We drove north on I-5 to San Juan Capistrano to visit the
old mission. I am really ready to get
off the interstates! We found a parking
space for us and Rick found one about 4 blocks on down. We looked in the mission store and then
purchased tickets for the audio tour of the old mission. It was very interesting and the chapel was really
impressive. Here are some pictures of the mission.
Dorrie and I walked through the new church and took some more pictures. They tried to copy the design of the original chapel. It was pretty, but we liked the old mission better.
After about 2 to 3 hours we went back to the camper and set
out for the first of two lighthouses. We
had a little problem getting going in the correct direction – we drove past one church three times in a span of about one hour.
Finally we got back on I-5 and followed the GPS to the lighthouse.
It was located in a small park on a dead end street. Below are pictures of Point Fermin Light.
Point Vicente Light was about 7 miles north of Point Fermin.
We still didn’t have a place to stay, so we drove on hoping
to find something. We finally came to a
Target store. I went in and asked if we
could stay and after talking to three different people, I was told they could
not give us permission but they would not make us leave. So we spent some money in the store as a way
of thanks and promised to be gone early in the morning.
