Day 29 – April 8 –
Boring California
I walked over to the Hotel/Casino office to check out –
there is a time and temperature display on one of the buildings and the reading
was 9:40 and 81 degrees. Rick had talked
to a person from Canada yesterday in the RV Park and the Canadian said they
were heading north because it was getting too hot in Vegas. I think half of the campers in the RV Park had
Canadian license plates and there were a lot of empty spaces this morning as
we headed out.
The drive from Las Vegas to the West Coast is one of the
most boring ones you can take. The road
crosses the Mojave Desert and there are not even towns to help break up the
desert. This drive is up there with
western Kansas on I-70 or southern Nebraska on I-80. The main difference with those highways is we
did have a couple of large hills to go up and down and did not have the wind we
have always had on I-70 or I-80.
We are currently about 80 miles from San Diego in the town
of Perris, California. The temperature
here was 91 degrees when we got to the Wal-Mart parking lot. We walked about a block and a half to Jack in
the Box for supper and then stopped at Wal-Mart for a few supplies.
Tomorrow the jeans go into storage for a while and the shorts
come out. We hope to get into a
campground near San Diego for a couple of days.
The campground does not accept reservations so we are hoping for the
best.
