Day 38 – April 17 –
Moving to Yosemite
We left the wonderful (not) Pinto Lake Park campground
around 9:30 and only have 161 miles to our next stopping point. We will travel from near the west coast
almost to the east border of the state.
We drove through commercial farming areas with fields of lettuce,
garlic, artichokes, cabbage, and others we could not identify plus there were
groves of almond, cherry and other fruit trees.
We stopped at a roadside stand and bought some strawberries, big
oranges, fresh garlic, and a lemon. Just
before stopping we could smell the garlic – they were picking it (I guess the
correct word is pulling it).
Our GPS units started giving us different directions to the
same location. Rick uses a Garmin and I
have a TomTom. I think Rick had his set
to go through Main Street of every little town, or on the roughest street
surface it could locate. Finally at
about 60 miles from the campground I said it was time for a little experiment –
I was going to follow my GPS directions and he would follow his. We parted ways, and within 7 miles of the
campground I made a wrong turn – reading the road signs instead of listening to
the voice of the GPS. That cost us 4
minutes on our trip, and we ended up back behind the Otto’s RV as we drove the
last 2 miles to the campground – Ye Ole Yosemite Campground.
The campground is rustic and we do not have cable TV or WiFi
service, we just barely have cell phone service if you stand in the right place
and hold your mouth right. This is home
until Monday morning.
